The Mission of Zion Lutheran Church is to help people to become more fully devoted followers of Christ:
- Serve others in the name of Christ
- Care for people in Christian love
- Grow in relationship with Jesus Christ
- Share the Good News of Jesus Christ
CARE for people in Christian Love.
In describing Care it all begins with God. God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not
perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) God reaches out and adopts us
in Baptism even before we can really know and love God. God calls upon
us to care enough to reach out to others.
SHARE the Good News of Jesus Christ.
As God sent Jesus to us, Jesus sends us to others. "As the
Father has sent me, so I send you." (John 20:21) We share Christ's
love by how we live our daily lives. In caring relationships we share
the love, the forgiveness, the blessings, the way we have experienced
God because these gifts are given by God to share with others. We invite
others to encounter Jesus Christ with us as we journey together in
worship and growth opportunities.
GROW in relationship with Jesus Christ.
The apostle Paul put it this way: "Have the mind of Christ"
(1 Corinthians 2:16). "Let the same mind be in you that was in
Christ Jesus." (Philippians 2:5). Spiritual maturity is a lifelong
journey. God gives us opportunities to grow spiritually throughout our
lives through worship, prayer, study and the support of small groups.
SERVE others in the name of Christ.
Jesus came not to be served but to serve others. He modeled a life of
service. We are called and sent to serve God and others. "There are
different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds
of service but the same Lord." (1 Corinthians 12:4-5). "No one
can serve two masters." (Matthew 6:24) "You cannot serve God
and mammon" (Luke 16:13). We serve God and others by helping people
identify their God-given spiritual gifts and find ministries where their
gifts can be used most fully and effectively. Stewardship is about who
we serve and how we serve.
