Schedule for September
"God
Work-Our Hands"
Zion's Christian Education
year will be kicked off on Sunday, September 7th with Rally
Day.
Everyone is
invited to join in the celebration beginning in the Fellowship Hall at
10:30 AM. Lou DeAngelis will lead us in music and then we will be able to
disperse to the Christian Education classrooms.
3 Year Olds--1st Grade
will be together in the last classroom on the left in the downstairs
education wing. Grades 2 and 3 will meet in the last classroom on the
right in the downstairs education wing. Both these classes will be working
with Firelight material. In September their focus will be on the story of
The Caring Samaritan.
Grade 4, 5 and 6
New Christian Education materials called "Grapple" will be
introduced to these classes this year. During September they will work
with their first unit titled "You're Not My Friend." Their
discussion will revolve around such questions as: What if someone's
different from me? What if someone hates me? What if someone's weird? What
if someone needs something from me? Classroom time will include community,
games and clues, grapple team time, team reports and grapple prayer and
dare.
Grades 7 and 8
Teens in the Confirmation Class will begin the year identifying their
personal individual gifts from God. They will be encouraged to use their
gifts to serve God and others. They will also begin rediscovering the Ten
Commandments and the Apostle's Creed as they develop a deeper
understanding of how God wants us to bring our faith into everyday life.
Grades 9-12
Teenagers in the High School Class are invited each week to
participate in active discussion on a variety of topics. Guest speakers
will also address the class throughout the year.
Adult Ministry: TWO Sunday
morning opportunities!
Adult Forum--Adults are encouraged to grow in their relationship with
Christ each Sunday at Adult Forum, topics vary and usually stand alone so
that you can feel free to join at any time. In addition to the Adult Forum
coordinated by Curtis Pulliam at 10:30 AM in the Fireside Room, Joni
Pulliam will lead a new Faith Journey group at the same time in
another room. Watch the weekly worship folder for more details on this
group and where it will be meeting. Plan on joining one of these two
opportunities to grow in your faith, learning how everything is God's
Work, but it is done by Our Hands.
God's Work -- Our Hands
The Greater Utica Community Food Bank was chosen as the local outreach
program that Zion's Christian Education program will support throughout
the year. We will focus on one specific food item we will gather for each
month. We hope all Zion members will support our monthly food challenge.
The food item for September is Tuna Fish.
