Children's Ministry Mission Statement

Mission Statement of Children's Ministry

To give all God's children a spiritual foundation in a caring, loving environment that will nurture their relationship with God through Jesus.

At Zion we strive to provide a welcoming environment full of fun as we learn about God and the Bible and how it applies to our lives.

Children's Ministry Schedule

Children's, Youth and Adult Ministries meet weekly beginning the first Sunday after Labor Day in September and continue through the Sunday before Memorial Day in May.

Nursery

Our staffed nursery is available during both the 9:15 and 11:15 services, for infants and pre-school children.  Since playtime is a very important part of a child’s development, a large selection of toys and a carpeted area are provided for children to share and play together while under the supervision of our caring staff.

Age 3 through Grade 6

Children are part of the worship service each Sunday as they are invited to come forward to hear a special message from "Peli", the pelican and Pastor Roger. Children also take part in the offering by bringing forward the food offerings members bring that are donated to the Greater Utica Community Food Bank.

Three Year Old--First Grade

Children in this class begin their faith journeys learning about God's love using Firelight materials--Wonder Stories and Stories of Jesus Miracles, Circle of Seasons, learning the seasons of the church year and Most Certainly True-Living and Learning the Catechism.

In 1st Grade & up, children receive First Communion as another one of the Stepping Stones of Faith.

Grades Two and Three

The same schedule used by the younger grades is followed, although material is age appropriate to encourage the children's understanding of Bible basics. Children are encouraged to use the Multiple Intelligence Method of learning as they meet weekly. Three year olds through third grade meet together on the first Sunday of each month for music led by Contemporary Music Leader, Lou DeAngelis.

In Third Grade, Zion provides opportunity for parents to place the Word of God in the hands of their children as one of the Stepping Stones of Faith.

Grades Four, Five and Six

This class of students will be working new material called Grapple for the first time this year. Grapple is specifically designed to get preteens talking about tough questions in meaningful ways so they understand and own their own faith. Classroom time will include community, games and clues, tea time and prayer and dare. Kid will also be encouraged to use their computer to visit the Website as they discover weekly information and learn to live out their faith.

Parents are welcome to attend all Children's Ministry Programs with their children.  Parents are also encouraged to volunteer in areas that complement their God gifted talents.

All fifth and sixth graders are encouraged to become actively involved in worship by receiving training for and then serving as acolytes.
