Opportunities to share common interests with others...In May 1995 Zion embarked on a Congregational Growth Initiative. We looked at the numerous changes in our society and the role of the church in the 1990's. As a result, we have experienced the birth of a number of small group opportunities. If you have any ideas for small groups you would like to see started, contact the church office. The Small Groups currently meeting are:
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY GROUP - The group organizes, directs, produces, and stages the weekly Children's Ministry program. The message, large group activities, and music are especially designed for children. Read about our children's education ministry. (Contact person is Helga Morrison) Return to topCONTEMPORARY MUSIC TEAM - The 11:15 a.m. Contemporary Worship Service(10:45 AM in Summer) is currently looking for people to sing or play music for the Contemporary worship service at 11:15 a.m. If you play in instrument or sing and would be interested in joining this music ministry contact Lou DeAngelis. Return to topGarden Ministry - This ministry is a summer ministry that takes advantage of our growing season. We ask people of our congregation to consider bringing in a portion of their harvest on Sunday mornings for the Garden Ministry table. Others who do not have gardens can share in this bounty by making a donation. This year we hope to make the "Food Connection" as the proceeds from Garden Ministry will be added to our World Hunger offerings. (Contact person is Julie Berntson) Return to top of pageMEN'S GROUP - Men of the congregation meet informally for breakfast the first Saturday of each month. They make plans to actively participate in church-related activities such as the Chicken BBQ fundraiser. The Men's Group helps out with many of our church property improvements that are necessary. The group is also instrumental in helping with food distributed to needy families and the Food Bank at holiday times. (Contact person is Fran King) Return to top"Young at Heart" small group - Zion members and friends of the congregation that are in their twenties, thirties and forties make up this group. This group was started to help to get to know others better in their age group. (Contact persons are Ross and Julie Berntson.) Return to topWEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY - This group meets every week, September to May, at 9:30 a.m. to discuss various aspects of the Bible. The group appeals to young mothers and non-working or retired women but is certainly open to anyone who is interested. (Contact person is Tammy Miller) Return to topWISE WOMEN IN TRAINING - This 50-something group of supportive and caring Christians was formed to look at what life has to offer "in the next 50 years." They meet the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in individual homes to read Christian inspirational material designed to help the group learn to become wiser women. (Contact person is Helga Morrison) Return to topWOODWORKING GROUP - If you love working with wood, this group is for you. Their first project was creating the flower boxes outside our main entrance.
